The venue is the single biggest decision you will make about your wedding. It sets the budget, shapes the guest experience, decides the mood, and, from my chair behind the camera, it determines the entire visual language of your content. After filming at dozens of properties across Ibiza, I have watched couples choose brilliantly and I have watched them choose for the wrong reasons. The good news is that getting it right is not about luck. It is about asking yourself the right questions in the right order. This is my honest checklist for choosing an Ibiza wedding venue, built from years of seeing what actually works on the day and on camera.

Start with the Feeling, Not the Photos

Most couples begin by scrolling through venue photos, and that is exactly backwards. A photo tells you how a place looks on its best day, in the best light, with no guests and no rain. It does not tell you how the day will feel. Before you look at a single image, sit down together and describe the feeling you want. Grand and dramatic, or soft and intimate? Barefoot and beachy, or polished and elegant? Wild countryside, or sleek waterfront? When you know the emotional texture you are after, every venue either fits it or does not, and the decision becomes far simpler. The most beautiful venue in the world is the wrong one if it does not match the feeling you are dreaming of. Decide the mood first, then let it guide everything else.

Match the Venue to Your Guest Count

Scale is where I see the most expensive mistakes. A venue that is too large for your group will feel empty and cold, both in the room and on camera. A venue that is too small will feel cramped and stressful, with no space to breathe or move. Before you fall in love with anywhere, know your guest number, even roughly, and be honest about it. An intimate finca that glows with thirty guests will feel sparse with eighty. A grand estate built for a hundred and fifty will swallow a party of forty. The right venue holds your exact group in a way that feels full, warm, and effortless. When the scale is right, the whole day relaxes, and that ease is visible in every frame of the final content.

Consider the Light and the Direction

This is the part almost no couple thinks about, and it is the part I care about most. Which way does the ceremony space face? Where does the sun set in relation to the dinner area? Is there shade for a midday ceremony, or will your guests be squinting into harsh light? Ibiza faces west, so many of its finest venues catch glorious golden light in the evening, but not all of them are angled to use it well. The direction a venue faces quietly decides how your content will look. I always study the sun path for a couple's date and venue before we plan the timeline. If you want to understand why this matters so deeply, read my guide to the best venues for a sunset wedding, where I break down exactly how the light behaves at each one.

Clifftop, Finca, Beach, or Villa?

Ibiza offers four broad venue families, and knowing them helps you narrow quickly. For drama and grand views, the clifftop venues like Elixir and the cliffside luxury of Hacienda Na Xamena are unrivalled. For lush, green countryside luxury, the agroturismo fincas like Atzaró, Cas Gasi, and Can Domingo are pure magic. For barefoot, sea at your feet glamour, beachfront spaces like Cotton Beach Club and the natural beauty of Cala Conta are the dream. And for authentic, rooted island character, traditional fincas like La Granja and Can Gall carry the island's soul. You can explore them all in my full Ibiza wedding venues collection.

Practical Questions to Ask Every Venue

Once a venue is on your shortlist, the romance has to meet reality. Ask about the noise curfew, because many Ibiza venues must lower the music at a set hour, and this shapes how late your party can run. Ask whether suppliers are restricted to an approved list or whether you can bring your own team, including your content creator. Ask what happens if it rains, and whether there is a beautiful covered option rather than a plain marquee. Ask about access and parking for your guests, and whether accommodation is on site or nearby. Ask what is genuinely included and what is extra, so the quoted price is the real price. These unglamorous questions protect your day. A stunning venue with a strict early curfew and a closed supplier list might not give you the wedding you are picturing, and it is far better to know that before you sign.

Visit, or Have Someone Who Knows

If you possibly can, visit at the same time of day and season as your wedding, so you see the real light and the real atmosphere. If a trip is not possible, which is common for destination couples, lean on people who know the island intimately. Your planner, and yes, your content creator, can tell you things no brochure ever will. I know where the light falls at each venue, which corners film beautifully and which to avoid, where the wind picks up, and how each space truly feels with guests in it. That lived knowledge is exactly what I share with my couples. For a complete overview of every type of location on the island, my complete Ibiza wedding venues guide is the best place to start. Choose with intention, ask the honest questions, and trust the people who live and work in this beautiful place.
